The Weekly Dressing Down
It's your Producer here again for World Football Daily to catch you up on all the happenings behind the scenes here in studio and behind the glass. First off, if you are in the LA area this Wednesday, make sure to join Steven, Kenny and the boys of World Football Daily as we go to
Capitol City Sports Bar and Grill in the heart of Hollywood. Literally, you have over 30 big screen TVs and one gigantic projector screen smack dab in the middle to watch every angle of every match. Whether you want to stay inside, or enjoy the beautiful Southern Californian weather and go outside, they have a full bar with tons of beers on tap and even more selections of wine to choose from. Plus, there is nothing like waking up to watch footy while eating a good breakfast served from a hot waitress. Come join us, get your sing on, wave your flags, wear your colors, and support your club with other supporters from all over. And if you are really die-hard, call off work to watch some mid-week Champions League action like we will when we watch Harry and Tottenham take on (Asene Wegner's "B-Squad") Youngboys with WFD.
Tons to catch up on if you missed a minute anytime this past week. As always, we brought you a diverse look at the English Premier League with the top Journalists from around the UK. From the Telegraph, we brought you Michael Norrish and Mark Ogden. We also brought you Oliver Kay from the Times and Steve Tongue from the Independent. But we also brought you an exclusive interview with Cardiff City Manager Davey Jones. Davey was nice enough to drop some breaking transfer news from their club with the move of Lee Naylor from Celtic FC, the day after the move of Craig Bellamy from Manchester City... all live on our show. (See what happens when you don't tune in live?) WFD was also very proud to bring former Chelsea and Rangers player, and newly announced Manager of next season's MLS club Portland Timbers, John Spencer. But England isn't the only place we like to visit when it comes to footballing coverage. We also introduced a new Spanish correspondent to our listeners, Pablo Oolo from the Real Madrid Fanzine, "Marca". Pablo came on the day of the Mesut Ozil transfer to Madrid. With the Bundesliga starting this past weekend, Ben Gladwell came on to preview the season ahead in Germany. Italy saw the Italian Super Calcio Cup take place between Inter Milan and AS Roma. Our idea of coverage was to bring on Italian Serie A Commentators, Paul Visca and Richard Whittle to help preview the fight for the first piece of silverware in Italy. You will be hearing much more from our friends in Italy as World Football Daily will be partnering with the two commentators to bring you a new show under the WFD Network umbrella called "Calcio and Coffee", so make sure to stay tuned. Paul and Richard weren't the only commentators to join us, Ian Darke ("Go! Go! U.S.A.!!!!"), World Cup, Premier League, and even Boxing announcer, joined Steven and Kenny to give us his thoughts to the opening of the Premier League season. Oh, and did I mention that we had on USMNT and Orebro SK midfielder, Alejandro Bedoya on the show as well. Kenny calls out Ale on not playing his best match in the friendly against Brazil, and the young man agreed. He broke down where he would have liked to have done better and improve, and he also explained how the US boys keep in touch. It was a fantastic profile interview that if you missed live, you should really check out in the Interviews and highlights section of the audio archives.
We start the week off on a roll immediately. Billy Davies, Manager of Nottingham Forest, joins Steven and Kenny at the opening of Monday's show and the fast-talking Scotsman was more than entertaining. It's even more interesting that we have the author of an article that pips Martin O'Neil to take his position in the near future. (You can find the article linked on our homepage in the
"Latest Articles" section) So we brought on Neil Ashton, our good friend from News of the World to go into greater detail about his article regarding the Nottingham Forest Manager position. We will be bringing on the poetic Mr. Graham Hunter to preview the La Liga season which is primed to kick off. If you need a good introduction to the Spanish First Division, make sure to read
"Stephen Kuzner's 2010/2011 Spanish La Liga Guide" under the "Kick About" Blog. Speaking of blogs, we have a new blogger to join the "Kick About", Tom Mallows. Tom Mallows is a writer for the website Betfair Football where you can find all the insiders tips for placing online wagers on football in the UK, including tips from Sky Sports' Andy Gray.
In the attempt to bring the best guests to our subscribers, we have been really stretching ourselves to try and track down as many guests from around the footballing world. WFD recently sent one of our correspondents to Toronto for a week to catch the TFC Champions League fixture against Cruz Azul and their league match against Thierry Henry, Rafael Marquez and New York Red Bulls. You can see all the pictures of this trip in the
"Photo of the Day"section of the website. We will hopefully have Steve Bruce of Sunderland and Ian Holloway of Blackpool next week to join the show and we are in talks with several Premier League sides from around England to expand our already expansive guest list which is unmatched by any other of show/podcast out there. Just make sure to stay tuned in everyday. Also, look to join the WFD Champions League Draw Competition which will start this week. Thanks for all the support that all of you show. Keep listening and this little community of football supporters will only continue to grow.
Cheers,
-Rafa
