After a whirlwind season that has seen Andy Carroll go from being a pretty decent player to a man who is considered to be a key part in the England national team's attempts to rebuild and begin to challenge once again at the top level of international football, the question that now has to be asked is whether Carroll can be the man who turns Liverpool into the top team in England.

Although Carroll cannot be blamed for the obscene price that was eventually paid to transfer his services from Newcastle United to Liverpool, the fact is that it is a price tag that he now very much has to live with and live up to. Should he fail to do so, then he knows that he will have been seen as yet another false dawn for the Merseyside outfit that has endured significantly more pain than joy in recent years. Right now, most people make Liverpool betting tips to finish in the top half, but they could still make the top four but Carroll will have to get the goals for them.

However, while this pressure is bound to have some impact on the young striker, the fact of the matter is that he has already shown in his short career so far that he is more than capable of scoring goals and creating huge problems for defenders in the Premier League, something that means he definitely has the potential to become as big a hero at Anfield as the man he replaced, Fernando Torres. The football betting odds suggest he has every chance of being top English scorer next season.

Despite this, his temperament has already been called into question both on and off the pitch this season, and his new manager will be more than aware that Carroll will need to show that he has both the intelligence and the composure to turn his undoubted potential into performances that can bring both himself and his new club trophies.
