It's brown, it looks a little different and it's knitted. KNITTED.
Adidas claim it's the next big thing to hit football as today they released their new boot for the upcoming World Cup, the Primeknitt.
Made of a specially coated yarn that gives the material all the functionality of a normal boot; making it strong, stable and just as waterproof as any other adidas shoe on the market, the company are hoping to have found the next step in football boot evolution.
It's environmentally friendly, with one yarn being able to be turned into the boots upper rather than 15 pieces of material being sewn together to make the more traditional looking boots we've become used to, and it fits - according to it's testers, that includes Liverpool hit-man Luis Suarez - like a sock to the players foot, giving the wearer the touch a feel of playing barefoot while providing protection from the elements.
"By producing the world’s first knitted football boot we have provided a brand new solution to the search for higher levels of comfort and flexibility," said Markus Baumann, Senior VP for Global Football as adidas.
"[It] is designed to allow for a bespoke fit for each player, making performance more intuitive and responsive than ever before. Primeknit is a technology that is right at the heart of adidas innovation and we’re excited about introducing this development into football."
The knew shoe has taken around two-years to develop and has been kept as light as possible - weighting in at 165 grams in a size 9 - to give players the burst of speed and quick feet needed for the modern game.
Going on general sale in mid-March (and hopefully in some other colours too), adidas hope that the new design is just a starting point to the development of their boot range, with the brand hoping to achieve it's eventual goal of a barefoot or sock fit boot.
What do you think of the boot? Are you looking to get your hands on this or are you willing to wait for the reveal of Nike's latest addition to their boot room, especially after yesterday's teaser trailer?
