Doing it for the Kids!
Doing it for the Kids!
Posted by Rafa Gonzales
Today's title is inspired by one of the better humans in this world, Santino Quaranta. Santino is holding soccer camps for kids as a positive option for them to keep off the streets. So wanting to get in on the action, I figure the best way for our show to show our compassion for the cause is by dedicating today's show to the children of the world (cue the UNICEF show partnership deal we stole from Barça). But for reals, if you are on the east coast and you want to join one of Santino's camps, check out his website here. Right, well onto to the real business.

Another epic week from World Football Daily. We closed the week off strong with a pretty stellar line up and a two hour show. No, you will not find a single show/podcast/ or other out there that will bring this type of content to you daily. And if you don't have time to listen to the entire show, catch the interviews segmented out so you can listen to the portions of the show you want most. Either way, we bring you the coverage you need with a style and comfort that you cannot find elsewhere.

Today, we kicked off the show with one of the most respected and loved commentators in the game, Derek Rae of ESPN UK. Although he is fighting off a cold, he joins us from Scotland to give his opinion on the the UEFA Champions League Knock-Out Round of 16 which brings a few tasty ties. They could have talked about the Arsenal drawing a rematch against FC Barcelona, but as Steven said in the show, "let's talk about the draws which are competitive."

Derek admits to following Spurs closely as one of the more refreshing and entertaining sides in the competition. He also steps out on a limb to say that Shakhtar Donetsk may be the upset of the round as they face off against AS Roma. We spent an easy 15 minutes discussing the draw with one of the best announcers for the Champions League, but we also covered the play from the Scottish Premier League... or lack thereof due to the weather. When we asked Derek about the giant clash between Chelsea v Manchester United match on Sunday, he felt that the return of Super Frank would be enough.

After Derek, we were joined by Alex Dimond of Goal.com who covers the nPower Championship. Although with such major current events going on in the top flight of England, we couldn't help but touch on the Big Sam dismissal, the Carlos Tevez and Roberto Mancini showdown, and of course the Chelsea and MUFC match up. Kenny made sure to bring up the new owners of Hull City and the three boys discussed the hopeful return of Queens Park Rangers to the Premier League.

Finally, we wrap up the guests today with Santino Quaranta of DC United and the USMNT. DC United had a tough season last year and Santino wants nothing more than to rebound and bring his club back to where it should be in the upper echelons of the MLS. Kenny brought up the recently added Dax McCarthy to the United line-up and Santino spoke nothing but complements of the young midfielder, claiming that "Dax may just have what it takes" to control the midfield.

Santino recently launch his new website, SantinoQuaranta.com where you can keep up with all things in the world of Santino, including his new soccer camps. The United player went on about how he wanted to help kids keep in line, off the streets, while giving them a fun and healthy alternative. Kenny recognized the passion within Santino and had to pose the question of whether or not Santino would consider a coaching career after his playing days are done. Santino said he loved working with kids, but wasn't sure how good he would be "if I can't get my daughter to listen to my coaching".

We close the Friday show with a little "I know the Score" with the Aussie, Nick Mason. He joins us from New York and sounded eerily confident in his Gooners who found out today that they would be taking on Barcelona in the Round of 16 Knock-out phase of the Champions League. What ever the Kool-Aid he is drinking makes for quality radio. We kick off Monday's show with Craig Burley, so make sure to tune in.
