Nothing is better than waking up early Saturday morning to catch the North London Derby. The battle between Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsenal FC rarely fails to entertain, and on this occasion in the FA Cup Arsenal emerged victorious of the two. The proof is there in the score line, literally, 2-0 both goals scored by the Gunners' midfield. Goals scored by Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky and further evidence to Arsene Wenger’s midfield surplus and the possibility taking home silverware this campaign.
Tottenham through out the majority of the match couldn't facilitate possession out of their midfield line, leaving a large gap between their forwards and wingers. With those open spaces the Gunners found it to be easy to find their passing lanes and runs. The midfield pairing of Dembele and Bentaleb found themselves both defending deep in their own half of the field. The few hopes Spurs had to even salvaging their FA cup campaign were coming from the exploits of their wingback. Kyle Walker proved to be the only hope for Tottenham in his attempts to get forward and help widen the Arsenal defense. The front pairing of Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor proved to be as lackluster and frustrating as accomplishing a new years resolution.
As for the Arsenal, what more can be said than a possible return of Wenger's master class. The Gunner faithful should of enjoyed every moment of this match, Spurs only looked threatening at a handful of times; courtesy of a stalwart and cohesive midfield line working hard their defensive core. Even without an actual forward player in the line-up, Walcott performed well when he had to hold the ball and facilitate passes to the Arsenal wingers. Gnarby's run and vision was something to admire as he set up Santi Cazorla on his run inside the Spurs box for Arsenal's first goal of the game. A lapse in intelligence was the attribute to Arsenal's second as Tomas Rosicky easily picked the pocket of Danny Rose. The old Czech veteran showed his experience in his ability to rob the young Danny Rose and barreling down on goal to make it 2-0 for the gunners.
In the final minutes of the match Spurs began to finally take the game back to Gunners utilizing Kyle Walker's pace on the wings. But these efforts were too little too late for Tottenham and their FA cup dreams this campaign. In regards to who will claim the FA cup this campaign, Wenger has more than thrown down the gauntlet with brushing a side their rivals. Spurs would do diligence to use the exit from the FA cup as a blessing in order to salvage their league form. Food for thought for the Arsenal faithful, the last time the gunners were at this point in the league, FA cup, and Champions League. It came crashing down on them in the 2007-2008 season, fantastic win but "take it with a grain of salt."
