Johnson aims for top four finish

Johnson – who scored the winning goal at Stamford Bridge, something even those looking at mobile casinos were impressed with – says that he and his team are more than capable of securing a Champions League place, especially if they improve their home form.

He said: “We're taking it game by game but our aim is the top four and that's what we are fighting for.”

“If we start getting a few more points at home and keep what we're doing away, I'm sure we won't be too far away.”

Referring specifically to the win at Chelsea, the 27-year-old continued: “I think we dominated the first half, but Chelsea are a great side and we expected a reaction in the second half and we got that.”

“Chelsea are always going to have periods of the game when they're on top. I thought we dealt with it quite well. We conceded but I thought that was quite unfortunate.”

"We showed great character to bounce back. Our last game at home against Swansea was disappointing and then you come here and you do this - that's typical of football.”

It was obviously a special day for Johnson as not only has he only just come back from injury, but his goal on Sunday came against the club where he spent four years between 2003 and 2007.

The England international never quite held down a place at Chelsea, so the goal will mean a lot to him. It also means a lot for Liverpool as they are now level on points with the Blues.

The race for a Champions League place is certainly set to hot up this year with Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham likely to fight it out for two places behind the Manchester teams. Newcastle will hope to stay in the mix as long as possible too.

In other Liverpool news, manager Kenny Dalglish was full of praise for his side after the win at Stamford Bridge. The Scotsman said that his team deserved the three points.

“If you have a fantastic performance you've got a better chance of getting a result and I think that's what we did.”

"We played really well in the first half and deserved to win.”

Referring to Johnson, he continued: “It's not bad when your right full-back does it - and it gives you an indication of the commitment and what the players were hoping to get out of the game.”
