Real Madrid have unleashed the kit they hope they'll be lifting La Decima in next season and it smells of second place.
Don't get us wrong. Here at World Football Daily we LOVE the traditional Madrid shirt. Plain white is how it should be for Los Blancos and the three Adidas stripes have almost become part of the Real Madrid family since they first arrived on the scene in 1998.
But as the images show, there is a little bit of a silver lining theme running through next year's new shirt.
The gold stripes from the arm of last year's shirt - a symbol of their La Liga title win the year before - have been replaced with silver ones, as is the Adidas logo on the shirts chest.
The new shirt that Iker Casillas (or Diego Lopez) will be wearing next year appears to have been inspired by their league rivals - and new La Liga champions - Barcelona and that horrific tequila sunrise esc away shirt from last year. Replace the orange and yellow of Barca's shirt with the purple and blue of Iker's new shirt and suddenly you'll see what we're saying.
It's still a great shirt, and with Madrid you can never go wrong, but it does show hints of an inferiority complex to their Catalyan rivals success. Either that or they're hoping the silver that decks their shirts this year will inspire gold again for the next. |
