Gunners still on for main target
Gunners still on for main target

While Arsenal have seen their season all but crumble around them following their elimination from three competitions in the space of two weeks, the club are still in the hunt for their main target this season, the Premier League title. Despite dropping points last weekend, West Brom holding the Gunners to a 2-2 draw at the Hawthorns, Arsenal are still only five points behind Manchester United with a game in hand.

After losing in the Carling Cup, Champions League and FA Cup in quick succession, the Premier League will be all or nothing for Arsene Wenger and his side, who are still looking to end their six year trophy drought. Striker Robin van Persie is confident that his side can use the pain from their recent cup defeats and use it to their advantage in the Premier League run-in.

"It is a real blow that we threw away three trophies within the space of only three weeks. We still have another big objective and that is winning the Premier League title," he said.

United are going through their own issues and Sir Alex is trying to plug all sorts of defensive leaks, following the injuries to Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and the suspension of Jonny Evans. This topsy-turvy season may still have a couple more twists in it and Arsenal will need to take advantage should United slip up over the next few games. However, given their current form they may not attract too many Premier League bets.

If Arsenal are going to pull the title out of the bag, then they are going to need van Persie fit and firing on all cylinders. The Dutchman has had another injury interrupted campaign, and the Gunners can ill-afford to have their main goal threat watching from the stands. There doesn't appear to be loads of goals throughout this Arsenal side at the moment and van Persie's presence in attack will be essential to their hopes and the Arsenal betting tips reflect this.

Nicklas Bendter has once again shown he isn't anywhere near as good as he thinks he is, and Marouane Chamakh has failed to build on his promising early season form. Van Persie's goals will have a major part to play if Arsenal are going to climb above United at the top of the table and regain their crown.
