After five years away from his beloved red and yellow jersey, he was finally allowed to make his 100^th appearance for the historical club. Not only did he easily re-adapt to the GS style of play, he made his mark on the game.

After going down early in the second half at the 50^th minute, Ates calmly slotted the ball past the keeper into the back of the net to equalize just three minutes later. Johan Elmander added the finishing touch at the 66^th to cement the victory at 2-1 to grab all three points.

Besides scoring, Necati’s smart play on the ball, field movement, and passing ability to his team mates impressed head coach Fatih Terim.

“Scoring in that situation is not easy”, Terim began saying. “This is why we brought Necati back.”

At the age of 32, Ates looks as if he can play for the next five years with ease. However, Gaziantep was just one game. He is stepping in to take the place of Milan Baros who is facing disciplinary measures with the league after issues with the referee during the home game against Antalyaspor.

The shoes Ates has to fill are quite large, but after his performance at Gaziantep, belief and hopes are high for the Turkish international.
