Chances were beckoning back and forth with visitors Kayserispor enjoying most of them. The home side finally found the break through to take the lead.
Gala’s transfer target, Amrabaat, played very dangerously against the league leaders with slick through balls and near goal scoring opportunities. Keeper Fernando Muslera stood his ground well to keep the ball out of his goal.
The defensive weakness in the side was surprisingly former Czech Republican international, Thomas Ujfalusi. Whether he sent a poor pass or simply slipped, 2-3 of the first half chances for the visitors were due to his errors.
The player who assisted Melo’s goal, Riera, was surprisingly chosen to start at left back. He is known as a left winger to create chances for his team mates or occasionally score a goal. However, Gala coach, Fatih Terim, chose to test out the Spanish international at a new position. When questioned about why he took that risk, he replied, “Hakan Unsal used to be a left winger when he first started playing for me here at Gala. I then switched him to left back.”
Riera played fairly well in that position being that not too many chances were created from his side of the field. Running up from the left-back position to join the attack benefitted him as his cross assisted the only goal of the game. He already knows how to play winger, Terim is helping him to improve his game by placing him at a different part of the field.
Kayseri could have easily scored on more than one occasion but the Gala did deservedly gain all three points. They currently sit atop the league in front by a comfortable margin of six after arch-rivals Fenerbahce failed to grab any points at Karabukspor where they fell 2-1.
Galatasaray will next play away at Mersin Idmanyurdu on Friday and will look to increase their lead to nine points.
