Rangers only needed a win at Kilmarnock to seal their 54th Scottish League win in a week in which once again Scottish football was filling the papers for all the wrong reasons. Celtic's small hope of a Rangers slip-up was dashed almost instantly after kick off at Rugby Park as the Gers went 3-0 up within seven minutes.

Walter Smith remained composed despite the dream start, forcing his side to remain focused on the task at hand and that they did, keeping the score at 3-0 until half time before increasing their lead to five shortly after half time. Kyle Lafferty took home the match ball after topping off an incredible end to the season with a well deserved hatrick. The other two goals came from Naismith and Jelavic who have also enjoyed good form in the later months of the season. Kilmarnock got a consolation goal from a deflected shot from James Deyton to lessen the embarrassment slightly.

Since their League Cup victory over Celtic, which followed several big losses to their fierce rivals, Rangers seemed to find their form and with it their confidence. You have to go back some six matches to find the last time they conceded a goal, scoring a mere twenty-two goals in those games, critics may say that the competition in the SPL isn't quite up to scratch but it is hard to argue with those stats no matter the competition.

The crowd at Celtic Park realised early on that it was not going to be their name on the trophy this year but they were treated to a fine performance from their team, winning 4-0 against a weakened version of the Motherwell team they will face in the Scottish Cup Final at Hampden next week. The fans were eager to show their support for their Manager Neil Lennon, who was greeted on to the pitch by a standing ovation from the supporters, following his experience on Wednesday night when a fan at Tynecastle ran on to the pitch and attacked him mid-match.

Lennon has been the subject to racial abuse and attack throughout the season and this incident was nothing if not lucky. The fan was stopped before he could get anything more than a punch on the Irishman but had he been carrying a weapon, which is more than possible, the consequences could have been far more severe. He believes that he has been subjected to the attacks and threats purely for being a Roman Catholic constantly in the public eye. This fan is due to be seen in Edinburgh's Sheriff Court later this week to face the verdict of the judge and jury. Two other men will also appear in court later in the week in relation to the parcel bombs sent to Lennon last month.

In his post-match interview, the 39 year-old remained defiant saying that he will not be scared out of his job by these people. He had a positive outlook on next week's Cup Final saying that he "came to Celtic to win silverware, and that's what he intends to do next weekend". Also stating categorically that "this was not the end for Celtic, but the beginning".

For the third time in four years, the title has remained undecided in Scotland until the last day of the season, which is not something that can be said for many leagues. Even the relegation battle was not concluded until Wednesday night following their 1-0 defeat to St Johnstone. Hearts took the third European spot despite a 2-1 loss to 4th placed Dundee Utd who look to challenge them again for it next season.

Next Saturday brings the Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Motherwell, which will hopefully be slightly closer than the match this weekend with both teams looking to have something to show for their seasons.
