Plenty to report in this week’s round of matches so why waste any time…

Arsenal 7-1 Blackburn

The early match on Saturday provided some fireworks at the Emirates. Robin van Persie gave the Gunners the lead early on, but Morten Gamst Pedersen leveled for Blackburn with a brilliant free kick. From that point forward, it was all Arsenal. Their second goal was a fantastic team goal that RVP tapped in. The third came after flamboyant hold up play from van Persie, who then played in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for the youngster’s first Premier League goal. The last four goals came from Mikel Arteta, another from the Ox, RVP’s third, and of course, Thierry Henry.

Norwich 2-0 Bolton

Andrew Surman and Anthony Pilkington second half goals gave the Canaries all three points over the previously improving Bolton.

QPR 1-2 Wolves

New signing, Bobby Zamora got the opener in the 16th minute but it would get tougher before the half for QPR, because Djibril Cisse was sent off for putting his hand to the throat of Wolves’, Roger Johnson. Matt Jarvis would tie it early in the second half before Kevin Doyle got Wolves second. Doyle’s goal would prove to be the winner in a huge victory for the away side.

Stoke 0-1 Sunderland

The Black Cats are looking quite good at the moment. Their recent win, at the always-tough Brittania Stadium, validates their great form since Martin O’Neill took over. Robert Huth was controversially sent off in the first half and Sunderland took advantage in the second. James McClean scored the lone goal of the match to take all three points.

West Brom 1-2 Swansea

Brendan Rodger’s and his Swansea side got it done again, this time on the road. The new Premier League darlings are in fine form right now and even had to come back from a Marc-Antoine Fortune goal. In just five minutes the Swans swung the match, first through Gylfi Sigurdsson, then Danny Graham. That lead would hold up for a nice away win.

Wigan 1-1 Everton

After 75 minutes 0-0 looked inevitable, the match would end up finishing at 1-1, however. Wigan’s goal went down as a Phil Neville own goal but this one was on Tim Howard. The shot deflected off Neville and took a strange bounce before spinning off the turf and rolling in. Luckily for Everton, though, Victor Anichebe came on and got the equalizer with a strong header. A draw with the last place team, after just beating the first place team, has to be disappointing for Everton.

Manchester City 3-0 Fulham

This grind it out win from City came at a time when they needed to be reminded that they could still get that type of result. The loss last time out to Everton should’ve been a shock to the system and Sergio Aguero and co. responded with a comfortable 3-0 win at home. A penalty converted by Aguero, a Chris Baird own goal made by Adam Johnson, and a Edin Dzeko tap in got City the three points.

Newcastle 2-1 Aston Villa

Villa has improved over the last few games and actually looked like they might get something at St. James’ Park when Robbie Keane equalized Demba Ba’s strike. Papiss Demba Cisse, Newcastle’s newest signing, would have something to say, though. He scored the winner on his debut after coming on early for Leon Best. The Champions League is not too far out of the question for Newcastle.

Chelsea 3-3 Manchester United

This may have just been the match of the season. United came out firing and had a couple of penalty claims early on but Chelsea settled in and actually went ahead when Daniel Sturridge’s great run led to a United own goal and a Chelsea lead at halftime. Then the match really took off. Just 24 seconds into the second half, Fernando Torres played a brilliant cross over the United backline for Juan Mata to smash home on the volley. Another few minutes elapsed before the two goal lead became three for the Blues. David Luiz went unmarked in the box and headed home the Mata free kick. Against any other team, the 3-0 lead would be enough, but the Red Devils always fight back. It would be 3-2 just twenty minutes later on two Wayne Rooney penalties. Torres was then scared to shoot on what could’ve been the winner and the Blues would rue that missed chance. Naturally it was Chicharito that would tie it on a Ryan Giggs cross in the 83rd minute. But the match wasn’t over and David de Gea had to make a great save on yet another Mata free kick that was on its way in. 3-3 seemed reasonable in the end.

Liverpool 0-0 Tottenham

Anfield was ready for a classic as two top seven clubs were at it Monday night. Unfortunately, the fans did not get what they coveted. Neither team had many clear cut chances apart from one each for Gareth Bale, Andy Carroll, and sub Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan was making his first appearance for Liverpool after his nine-match suspension and got a yellow card for his troubles. Spurs defended very well, including multiple heroic blocks from Scott Parker and Michael Dawson. Not much else here, both teams will have plenty to say about the Champions League places, however.

This week’s team of the week is going to Arsenal for their demolition of Blackburn on Saturday, 7-1. Robin van Persie took home the match ball but my player of the week is going to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. His well-timed runs, blistering pace, and clinical finishing were all on display from the future star. Man City is the big winners this week with themselves, Arsenal and Newcastle the only top seven sides picking up three points. The last 14 match days are starting to look incredibly interesting.
