The silly season was in full effect for the bianconeri this summer being linked to everyone and their mother. The summer started with the ambitions of signing the Argentine Sergio Aguero. He was off playing in the Copa America and would not make a transfer decision until the competition was finished. Leaving Juventus’ other striker target, Giuseppe Rossi feeling like the brunette at the bar you attempted to pick up after the blonde turns you away. Instead of being in bed with the brunette you are going home with the red head in this case that red head is the Mirko Vucinic. At least the party was not a waste. You get it in and as my Chinese friend once told me you must slay some dragons before you can get to the princess. Vucinic will be a good role player for Juventus, possibly fill the void on the left flank that is waiting for the return of Nedved, who can only look on as his old flank is filled by a player who is out of position. Bastros or Vargas has been tipped to join to fill the gap but it seems unlikely. I would like to see Conte give the youngsters a shot. Cristian Pasquato scored a good goal against América. With the addition of Vidal in the midfield, Juventus can control the center of the pitch allowing Krasic to do what he does best, causing problems on the right flank. I hope Conte has the swagger the new pink shirts imply. This year Juventus need to be bold. Without European football the old lady should be at the top of the table.
The strike forces of Matri and Quagliarella, if they stay fit, will be worth fifteen goals each this season. With Del Piero super subbing, I do not think Juventus will have a problem putting the ball in the net. So the attention shifts the back line. Chiellini need to be back in the center. He is the rock the holds the back line together he is not an outside back. Right back with the likes of Stephan Lichsteiner and Frederik Sorensen will be strong. I am really keen on Sorensen. The young Dane impressed me on most occasions. He is still inexperanced but with a player like Lichsteiner to learn from think he is the future and should see time on the pitch this season. Left back is more of an issue for me. I love to see the pace of De Ceglie getting forward making problems for the opposition but he lacks the experience. This is where Reto Ziegler comes in. He can score goals and get forward. He could even take care of the left wing if Conte made it so. Now only leaving the middle of defense. It has to be Bonucci and Chiellni with Barzagli coming in when he is called upon. For me, there is no other choice.
My starting 11 for Juventus
------------Matri---Quagliarella--------------
Pasquato---Marchisio----Pirlo-----Krasic
Ziegler---Chiellini---Bonucci----Lichtsteiner
This was more difficult than I thought. Juventus has some depth. The main thing I am missing is a true ball winner in the center of midfield. This is where Vidal and his work rate will come play but who do you replace? Pirlo is going to pull the strings and Marchisio bleeds black and white. I am picking Pasquato to have a break out year. He is a youngster who has the pace and the energy to complement Krasic.
Let see if Juventus can make a return to its former glory.
