On Monday’s program, we spoke with English football writer Kristan Heneage about all things Premier League football.  Although we spent the majority of the time talking about the weekend’s results and AVB blowing up on Neil Ashton, one of the more interesting parts of the discussion circled around the waning career of Steven Gerrard.

We asked the question, “how much longer can you seriously see Steven Gerrard competitively playing Premiership football?”

Where I was a little skeptical of how long the legendary Liverpool FC midfielder had left in him, Kristan was pretty sure that the veteran had about three to four years left in him, as long as he learns to adapt his game.  “Towards the end of Scholes’ career, not every pass was a Premiership pass, but it didn’t always need to be” Kristan said Monday. 

The fact is Steven Gerrard knows the English game inside-out and if he takes the example of Paul Scholes and even Ryan Giggs (I know, following in the footsteps of a rival?), Gerrard can effectively extend his career and really push out a few more years worth of heroic football for  the Kop.

The real question is whether or not he will be able to step up with the goals finally drying up from fellow teammate Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.  The Reds have depended a great deal on the S&S strike partnership and it’s help to bring them to the top of the table.  But now, with Sturridge out with injury and Suarez looking like he needs a bit of help up top, can manager Brendan Rogers find a solution? Or will it all fall on the broad shoulders of the Merseyside champion, Steven Gerrard.
