Rodgers is a 'gamble' for Liverpool

Pundits at CasinosMobile.com  note how Rodgers led Swansea to an extremely impressive 11th position in their first ever Premier League season but is poised to sign a three-year deal at Anfield.

The former Liverpool defender said: "It's a great appointment for him and the biggest gamble the club have taken in a long time,"

"Liverpool supporters will give him a chance. They will give him time. But if they don't look like finishing anywhere near top four, what do the owners do?" he added.

Rodgers has had a fantastic spell at The Swans and has earned a lot of plaudits for the way in which he gets his teams plays football.

It hasn’t always been a success story for the 39-year-old though, who had indifferent spells at both Watford and Reading before taking charge at the Liberty Stadium.

When asked about his qualities as a manager Lawrenson said: "Rodgers has done a great job at Swansea, everyone loves the way they play their football.”

"The chance for Brendan to manage a club which is in the top 10 in the country was too much to resist. It's a different challenge for him, the club will be expected to win every game.”

Liverpool supporters will be wary of appointing a manager that has impressed at a smaller club after Roy Hodgson’s appointment in 2010.

Hodgson led Fulham to a Europa League final and a top ten finish but struggled to cope with the pressure that comes with the job at the five time European Champions.

The BBC Sport pundit fears that the former Reading boss could struggle to deal with the expectations of being at such a big club and getting the best out of players that cost a lot of money.

"Liverpool spent an awful lot of money last season, there's no doubt they overspent. It's a big job for Rodgers because he'll be responsible for everything as there's no director of football.” Added the 54-year-old.

Lawrenson is confident that Swansea will bounce back from the disappointment of losing their manager should he sign a contract at the Merseyside Reds.

"Swansea have lost managers before, Roberto Martinez went to Wigan. They're a very good and well-run football club." He said.

The Swans took four points from Kenny Dalglish’s Liverpool side this campaign, including a 1-0 victory on the final day of the season.
