After a dreadful Europa League match in London against Benfica, Spurs found themselves humbled again by their rivals Arsenal. Sunday's display depicted Spurs' occasional obstacles that title contenders usually walk over with ease. The match began with Tottenham taking the game to Arsenal, but their forward thinking ended up falling short, rather fast too. Sandro's lazy forward pass was easily picked out by Oxlade-Chamberlain in the second minute and Ox played it wide to Rosicky. Rosicky burst down the right flank played a quick 1-2 pass with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain right before Tomas blasted his shot into the net. There was absolutely no way Hugo Lloris could save that shot, many can argue that Sandro's initial pass and delayed tackle combined for Arsenal taking a lead at White Hart Lane.
It was a tale of two different strategies being thrown at Tim Sherwood this week. After having been dealt a humiliating defeat to a high pressing and forward attacking Benfica, at home 3-1. Sherwood was hoping to bounce back from their defeat to the Portuguese giants against Tottenham's north London rival, Arsenal. The Gunners after taking their quick lead were sporting a tactic usually adopted by other teams in England and Italy. Sitting back and holding onto their narrow lead exhibited Wenger's squads’ abilities to survive a physical battle. In fact when looking at the overall match statistics, the facts were there for observation. Tottenham out shot Arsenal 17 shots for Spurs to Arsenal's seven with only 17 shots two of them were on target for the Lilywhites opposed to three by Arsenal.
Out of 17 shots only two efforts forced Szczeny into action, which translates easily, Tottenham were not making anything of their efforts. Yes Spurs supporters the numbers don't lie, but your side's domination of possession, shots and corner kicks couldn't faze the Gunner's back line. It appears after Arsenal's exit from Europe by the hands of Bayern Munich again, has reinvigorated the Gunners. In the right time too, the defeat in Europe will allow Arsene Wenger's men to refocus on what they deem important, domestic success.
Arsenal occupies the third spot in the Premier League and they are also in the semi-final for the FA Cup. With the Gunners exit from Europe the odds of Arsenal sputtering out of contention for silverware has diminished. In regards to the League, a slight warning must be put on for you Gunner supporters; both Arsenal and Chelsea are still competing in other competitions. Arsenal has the semi-final of the FA Cup and Chelsea is still fighting to continue through in the Champions League. Liverpool and Manchester City only have one priority from here on out, winning the Barclays Premier League. That being said Arsenal fans, do keep one eye over your shoulder for City and Liverpool.
