The Cream Of The Champions League Rises To The Top

Match day 5 has come to a close in the UEFA Champions League, but there are still many stories that are left begging to be told. Here are just a few stories we think you should keep an eye on as the Champions League Group Stages come to a close.

Starting things off in Group A, the real question is who will win the battle for second. Shaktar Donetsk have been regulars in the tournament as of recent and find themselves in second, one point ahead of Bayer Leverkusen. Donetsk travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United who have already qualified for the knock-out round, but will be looking to maintain momentum in a season of ups and downs for the new manager David Moyes. Hard to see Donetsk getting a point, let alone three, and although disappointing to say that Real Sociedad have been, well... disappointing, I just see Bayer Leverkusen having enough to get three points over the poorly performing Spanish club and punch their ticket to the knock out rounds.

I'm not a big gambling man, but I could tell you where to start if you want to bet on Champions League football.

The other story many football fans are frothing over lands you in the “group of death” - Group D. Bayern Munich are on a record breaking streak of 10 straight wins in Champions League match play. The German club are top of the group, but Manchester City have somehow managed to stay within striking distance, despite being beaten 3-1 by Pep Guardiola's men at the Etihad Stadium. If City can find a way to better the result they suffered at the hands of Bayern Munich in Match Day 2, they would do a service for a large number of football fans around the world who wouldn't mind having someone be a speed bump in the road for the German giants.

There are many more stories that are yet to be told in this group stage of the competition. There are countless ways to enjoy the experience as the final group stage match day arrives. We hope you join our daily football chat here, at World Football Daily.
