Chelsea's capitulation gives others hope

Why is the Barclays Premier League one of the most watched leagues in the world? Well if one watched Aston Villa versus Chelsea one would know exactly that reason why. The title race door has been flung completely open potentially allowing anyone in the top four positions to walk right in for domestic glory. Aston Birmingham was the place that door opened wide for the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool. The game was Aston Villa against Chelsea, in what has been considered a tough fought match between the two.

The last league game Saturday evening and in fact the one marred with some kind of controversy. In what was a tight first half, which only saw one opportunity coming from Nemanja Matic. The young Serb's goal was disallowed being ruled back for a handball in the 41st minute. Originally referee Chris Foy pointed to the center spot allowing the goal, only to be corrected by his assistant for the right call. Not to forget Willian's first yellow card of the evening occurred in the 24th minute for a cynical tackle on Bacuna. Another fascinating fact coming out of the first half of the match in Birmingham was that Chelsea enjoyed a majority of possession (65%).

The second half was where the implosion began, the catalyst that set off the chain of events came from Willian. The Brazilian winger made a physical challenge on Fabian Delph , a foul was given but Foy  judged it to warrant a second yellow card to send off Willian rather than a warning for what appeared to be slight foul. The sending off was an evident clue to how Chelsea capitulated. Although Manchester City were reduced to 10 men early in their game Saturday, they managed to beat Hull City at Kingston Comm. Stadium. The goal came from a bursting Fabian Delph in the 82nd minute. Delph stole the ball from Ivanovic at the midfield, danced around Matic and charged towards goal. The English international played the ball wide left for Albrington who sent the ball back into the danger area for Fabian to back heel the ball into the back of the net.

The implosion and more interesting talking points came in the dying seconds of the match as Ramires was given his walking orders. The Brazilian was erupting down the sidelines desperate to get the ball up the field for a final attack on the Villa goal. Ahmadi made the clinical tackle to put a stop to Ramires' breakthrough, but not without paying the price, on the follow through Ahmadi was stamped on by Ramires. The implosion continued, Ramires received his walking orders and not only did the two Brazilians get sent off but so did their Portuguese manager, Jose Mourinho. Jose Mourinho after the challenge by Ramires walked onto the pitch to try to get a few words with referee Chris Foy and from there Jose was sent to the stands.

With this loss Chelsea allow the title race to become more dramatic than ever. City's impressive win against Hull, Liverpool's 3-0 victory over Man United at Old Trafford, and Arsenal's triumph over their North London rivals Spurs put all four in contention for the domestic title. Each one of these teams has at least one hand on the Premier League trophy, who will be holding it though come May? We will find out in nine more fixtures.
