England should consider John Ruddy
England should consider John Ruddy

The 25-year-old – who Norwich signed from Everton last summer – made a fantastic save during the Canaries' 1-1 draw with Liverpool at the weekend, as his reputation continues to grow.

As Ruddy continues to impress in the Premier League, Norwich Manager Paul Lambert believes that England should come calling soon, making reference to the fact that he has regularly rescued points for Norwich.

Lambert said: “At big moments in big games, big players produce things, he certainly did that, he's been massive for me.

“Last season he saved us in huge games and he's done it again this year, England should have a look at him.”

When Ruddy made the move to Carrow Road in the summer of 2010, many Norwich fans were keen on Lambert securing the services of Newcastle keeper, Tim Krul, but he has now won their full support with some match-winning displays.

On this issue, Lambert continued: "People clamoured for Fraser to come back, not giving John time, but now quite rightly he might be getting looked at by England, that shows you the way he's playing.”

Prior to the excellent 1-1 draw with Liverpool   on Saturday evening – a Grant Holt header secured the memorable point for the newly promoted side – Ruddy himself was asked about the possibility of an England call-up.

He said: “It’s everybody’s ambition, isn’t it - to play for your country. I’m not expecting a call-up, but I know I have been watched and if I keep playing well for Norwich then that can only improve my chances.

“I’m trying not to think too much about England at the moment, I just have to concentrate on playing as well as I can for Norwich.

“But our midfielder Bradley Johnson was named recently in England’s provisional squad of 30, so it proves they are looking at Norwich.”

England’s next fixture is a friendly with Spain in November, so perhaps Ruddy will be included in this. For now, he will be pleased with how things are going for his club.

At the moment, Norwich are 8th in the Premier League having only lost once in their last five games. They have certainly performed superbly since returning to the top flight and Ruddy has played his part, no doubt about that.

In other Norwich news, they have already sold all of the soccer tickets for the clash with Arsenal on Nov. 19th. It took little over an hour for them to sell out and this is a sign of how pleased they are with life at the moment.

After securing back to back promotions, the Canaries have been excellent and they will hope it continues for a few more months yet.
