Show Recap |
Monday is here and the football from the weekend was a never-ending buffet of topics, fixtures, trades and transfers to talk about, but we manage to cover a lot of it. Our guest for the day is the Asian and Australian football correspondent for One World Sports and many other media outlets. We are talking primarily about the A-League down under today with John Duerden. We hardly ever bring up Australian soccer, primarily because it's difficult to organize a time that is reasonable for both sides of the interview, but we manage it this time. It's been nearly four years since John's been on last, but we hit the ground running, comparing the new A-League to something a little more familiar in Major League Soccer. We also talk a little bit about how Australia will be hosting the Asian Cup next year, going in to detail just how important the connection to the Asian Confederation has been for Australian football in general. Ollie asks what influence Alessandro Del Piero and Emile Hesky have on the league and it's supporters. We wrap up discussions with John discussing the Asian game and how it's grown since the hosting of the World Cup three cycles ago.
Rafa comes on of course and the boys break down some FA Cup review which was pretty straight forward. The highlight though comes in the next round where we see some major clashes like City and Chelsea, as well as Arsenal v Liverpool. Rafa even claims the winning goal for Ollie's Sheffield Wednesday in the name of US Soccer, than to Oguchi Onyewu. Of course, news of the Mata move has been circling the headlines since last week, but the move have been made final over the weekend, and the world is looking to see whether he will make an impact on David Moyes side in this season's campaign. Klaas Jan Huntelaar shows Schalke what they've been missing for five months as he scores in his first game back from injury. Milan manage to keep their heads and come back from an early deficit to beat a poor Cagliari. Rafa brings up a little Major League Soccer talk as LA Galaxy are cleaning house and an email from an audience member who explains how Toronto got their man Defoe. And to wrap things up, the boys pick sides in a long standing debate over old school and new school boots. Rafa takes the new technology over the old school classics that Ollie sides with. Plus, we announce we are giving away a pair of the new Puma evoPOWER boots that are not even released for sale yet! Just click on the poll and give us your opinion on what boots are your style and we'll select a winner to send out the boots to. |
