Show Recap
It's the mid week edition of World Football Daily and we're happy to pay tribute to a brilliant footballing legend from Portugal, Eusebio. Our guest for the day is PortuGOAL.net's very own Tom Kundert. Tom has been spreading the good word for Portuguese soccer in English for years now. Although the main reason we bring on Tom is a somber one, we try to celebrate the life of Eusebio, paying tribute to his career at club level, international, and of course, his time here in the states. Aside from that, we look forward to the weekend of fixtures in Liga Sagres, discussing the top teams and talents across the domestic league in Portugal. Rafa comes on immediately to talk about the massive loss of Fredy Montero to Seattle Sounders. He and Ollie try to sort out what it was that pushed him away and if there was any chance to keep him here in the MLS. Next, the boys go off on FIFA, the laughing stock of the footballing world, who came out and said the Qatar World Cup will be held in winter. Finally, the boys wrap up the show with an in depth discussion on homosexuality and the world's game after Thomas Hitzlsperger came out and openly stated his sexuality. As great as the support has been for Der Hammer, the boys both agree that the sad fact is that we need a man to come out while he is playing at the top level to shoulder the extreme pressures and attacks that will come with being openly gay in the sport just to stamp out the sad abuse that will most surely come with this player playing for his side. Do you agree or disagree? Let us know.
